We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to engage with our innovative Shared Capabilities team. The ideal candidate will possess experience in building and maintaining containerized software and tooling and have an interest in cross-skilling into a Platform Engineering skillset.
Key Responsibilities
Build, maintain and drive the Internal Developer Platform (Backstage tool) that acts as the entry point to our Shared Capabilities function.
Design, maintain, build and lead custom applications and tooling where necessary to facilitate our Azure Kubernetes platform.
Utilize your extensive skills as a Software Engineer to help upskill other Software Engineers to write effective code when running on a container platform.
Stay on top of Azure platform capabilities that may be beneficial for writing large scale applications and help other teams design such applications.
Cross-skill into contributing to the lifecycle management of platform resources, including Kubernetes clusters, networking, storage, and supported Azure services.
Drive automation of operational processes to improve platform efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
Provide Level 3 software engineering support for application issues, incident response, and troubleshooting complex problems related to Applications running on our Kubernetes platform.
Debugging complex software and hardware interactions.
Collaborate with internal and external support teams as needed.
Own the maintenance of platform documentation and contribute to process improvement for change management and access controls.
Help to lead Agile ceremonies.
Essential Qualifications and skills
+6 years of hands on experience in the similar role/relevant field
Proven track record in developing software systems in any applicable languages/frameworks (Python - preferred, Node.js, Go), and willingness to adopt the appropriate language to best complete your tasks.
Deep understanding of containerization, including how to create multi-stage Docker files, and able to demonstrate how to reduce build times.
Experience of developing or working with APIs to create integration between subsystems
Deep experience and understanding of modern Dev Sec Ops platform technologies, specifically Git Hub version control & CI/CD pipelines with Git Hub Actions.
A clear curiosity driven mindset, you are always eager to understand how something works and how it can be improved.
Demonstratable skills of how to quickly identify and address runtime issues with containerized applications on a Kubernetes platform.
Strong knowledge of database systems, including Mongo DB and Postgre SQL.
Demonstratable experience innovating within organizations, identifying and incorporating new technologies, methodologies, and industry best practices into the engineering process.
Experience thriving in a Scrum based Agile development.
Preferred
Existing Platform Engineering skillset, especially Terraform, Git Ops and Kubernetes.
Azure Architect or Developer certifications.
Existing knowledge or experience of developing the Backstage IDP.
