Job Purpose
Borg Warner Power Drive Systems is currently looking for a “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Manager Mechanical Engineering for Mechanical Development of e Drive Systems including e Motor and gearbox. The Manager Mechanical Engineering is responsible for leading a team of engineers across Europe to design, simulate, develop, and validate advanced mechanical components and systems for electric drive units. In this role, you develop a high-performance team culture, implement timely delivery, and adherence to quality standards. You will focus on developing the organization's capabilities and supporting strong business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership:
Lead, guide and develop teams of mechanical development engineers in the development of e Drive systems, encompassing e Motors, gearboxes, and their mechanical integration together with Inverter in Europe.
Develop and grow the regional Europe team competency to a high performing organization.
Represent BW on fairs and customer meetings for mechanical drivetrain systems.
Present BW at conferences and support Sales and Solution Center in business acquisition.
Plan and control budget.
Technical Oversight:
Implement Borg Warner PDP (Product Development Process) and Engineering Development Framework (EDF). Work with your team on continuous improvement of our processes, methods and tools and keeping a lean and efficient structure.
Implement structured problem resolution and adherence to best practices.
Drive teams to develop and document mechanical system and components in compliance with our process and methods.
Ensure that design meets performance, durability, and manufacturability requirements.
Develop and implement mechanical lab infrastructure. Implement and maintain a safe working environment.
Collaboration and Communication:
Develop an open and collaborative team culture and ensure global strong cooperation with our mechanical engineering teams at other technical centres globally and other disciplines.
Work closely with all other engineering and non-engineering functions e.g., Global Supply Management, Quality, Launch Management, Project Management, etc. to ensure teams are well connected and driving towards safe and flawless launch of our products.
Prepare and present high-level product status and plans for organizational development to senior management and other stakeholders.
Innovation and Problem Solving:
Drive innovation in mechanical design to enhance the performance and efficiency of e Drive systems.
Identify and resolve technical issues that arise during the development process.
Continuously seek opportunities for improvement in design processes and methodologies.
Ensure teams are using lessons learned from all product launches globally.
Quality and Compliance:
Ensure that designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
Maintain rigorous documentation per Borg Warner PDP and EDF.
Support Quality and Manufacturing teams to develop quality control processes.
What We’re Looking For
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience:
At least 10 years of experience in mechanical design and development within the automotive or related industry.
Proven experience in leading technical organizations for at least 3 years.
Proven experience in working within global organizations.
Experienced in budget and resource planning / control.
Management skills:
Excellent management skills
Strong ability to assess and mitigate product and organizational risks.
Soft Skills:
Strong leadership skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Coaching teams to high performance.
Good knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Understanding of design workflows and ability to review and guide design activities.
Familiarity with industry standards and testing protocols for automotive components.
Preferred Requirements
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Strong knowledge and experience in developing e Motors, gearboxes, and their mechanical integration.
English language skills on level C1.
