To further strengthen our Information Security team, we are looking for a dedicated IT Security Engineer to support our mission of maintaining and enhancing MDPI’s secure infrastructure. In this role, you will play a key part in vulnerability assessment and analysis of our Linux-based systems. The System and Security Engineer position is a full-time, permanent opportunity based in one of our offices in Basel, Belgrade, or Krakow. As part of our commitment to fostering a collaborative team environment, this role requires working fully on-site.
Tasks & Responsibilities
Configure, manage, and harden Linux-based systems in line with industry best practices.
Conduct security assessments and penetration testing, including identifying and remediating vulnerabilities
Monitor and respond to security alerts and incidents, escalating and resolving them promptly.
Maintain and optimize IT and network security systems, including backups, in accordance with service requirements.
Collaborate with development teams to ensure secure and efficient system implementation.
Utilize AWS security tools and services effectively.
Provide Level 2/3 support for security-related issues to IT users.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience (2+ years).
Working knowledge of Linux operating systems and Bash scripting.
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 services (Entra, Exchange Online, Share Point Online, Teams).
Understanding of key security principles such as access control, encryption, and vulnerability management.
Ability to work independently with a proactive mindset.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.
Relevant certifications Microsoft Certified: Fundamentals, Comp TIA Security+) are an asset
Basic knowledge of security practices related to Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, Share Point Online, Teams, etc.).
